Equity research refers to understanding/projecting a companies financial performance for the purpose of making equity investment decisions. Similarly credit research is the process of understanding a company and making a projections of how the company is likely to do in future for the purpose of making a lending decision. so the process/skills required are similar to equity research but the focus is on giving loans and therefore there is more emphasis on the companies ability to pay back the loan. Such research is done by banks for lending and credit research agencies such as ICRA/CRISIL for giving rating to debt instruments of companies.
While the work is similar to equity research but since the salaries are lower, there is lesser competition and chances of getting in are higher. You need to be able to demonstrate that you know / can do research and analysis and a program like financial modeling can definitely help.
Correspondence program is as effective, its just that you need more discipline. you can also take live virtual classroom and attend classes from your home in late evenings. Talk to ankush at 09819860060 for details.
